(From our own correspondent.) J ; The Inspcting Surveyor, Mr M'Eerrow,'' has, since my last, paid this 'district, a visib.- 1 His objeqfc was to ascertain what land was auriferous, and what suited for settlement on Campbell's 10,000 acre block application. Accompanied by. two ..experienced miners, he prospected the ground,' and I understand that he was satisfied .the greater portion of the block should be reserved for gold-mining purposes* Messrs Cooper and ' M'Quade, twopractical miners, were appointed by the Miners' Association to prospect the ground at.the same time; and to report on its auriferous character, and what was, adapted for "settlement. They have returned with a very encouraging account of the richness of the block, and the absolute necessity of reseryinV the land for sale. Mr Stout, solicitor, has received instructions from the Miners' Association here, to watch over their interests at the Waste Lands Board. .-'■'.- .--'." The prevailing opinion is that it istlie pf the ruuholders -to hold positions of importance, which eonitnamtoutiets, &e..|to this field ; and to retard, as- much as possible, the development of the, mining vudustry. The Minei's' Association bei-e ave detertnined to oppose the granting : of this appli--cation,. or any leases of a similar nature',' situated; on this field. Souaahimouj are they in their opposition, that it is thought the application will not for a moment be entertained by the Warden. ;'■'■'? : " The opening of the Grolden Hill water race took place on lust. A ball aud supper in honor of the : event came oif: in Gsterberg's hotel in the evening.
