THE Mount Ida Chronicle FRIDAY, MAY 9, 1873.
We understand that tlie old established Hotel and Storekeeping business on the Kyeburn Diggings, in the occupation of Walter Morgan is for .sale by tender. The ordinary meeting of the Committee of the Miners Association was held on Wednesday evening last. All the members werepresent except Messrs Creigliton and C-reen, who sent in their resignations, in consequence of being unable to attend the meetings, which were accepted. The Sub-Committee appointed to draw up Rules and Regulations, and also Standing Orders, brought; up the Report, wlricli was approved, and ordered to be submitted to a meeting of the members, to be called at an early date, for tl'eir adoption ; and also to elect two members of Committee instead of the gentlemen resigned. The Secretary reported the enrolment of. 33 mombers since last meeting, 26 of whom are residing at Hamilton,■■which wore obtained by Mr. A. Nicholas of that place. - It will be observed that tenders are again called for Contract No. son Head Race. We are I'equested to state that tenders must be accompanied with, a cash deposit, or marked cheque, of 2| per cent on the amount. Thirty men are reported at work on the Head Race. . Work is going on slowly, but what is done is most satisfactorily- finished. All men employed are on by the day. Nearly three miles are completed. Thirty-seven men are on the Sludge Channel contract: The work is being pushed with rapidity, is executed well, and two miles are nearly finished—that is, of course, without the subsequent stoning or sodding. A Proclamation in the { Provincial Gazette' notifies that native game may be killed in the united Pi'ovince during the months of March, April, May, and June, and that pheasants may be shot during the moatlis of .Tune and July, over the area of land lying between the Waikouaiti river and the Horse range, within ten miles distance from the sea. The bazaar lately held at Hokitika for the Hospital realised £44o' The Naseby revising court is to be held at the Court House, at 10 a.m., May 20th. ; We are sorry to learn that lately at Queenstown, a child df Mr. John Alloo's fell a few feet from a window and broke its leg. Jean Desire Feraud, of Monte Christo' notoriety, figures in the Bankruptcy court. We would draw the attention of soda water manufacturers, &c., to the advertisement of Messrs Thomson and Co., of Dunediu, for the sale of Hogbens patent for the Mount Ida district for filling and stopping bottles. This seems to combine celerity with safety. A SAD accident occurred at Q.ueenstown lately. A butcher's lad, getting on his horse, missed his footing, and. remained caught in the stirrup. Before the horse could be stopped the man's head had come in contact with a large stone, which produced death instantaneously. Tile G-oldfields Bill is still undergoing revision, and has already reached, we believe, 250 clauses. This means work for the lawyers. The English mail, via Suez, will probably close at JMasebv, on Monday, 12tli iust, to go by s.s. Rangitoto from Dunedin on the 16th. Ma. Campbell's application for the Otekaike block at Maerewhenua was declined •yesterday by the Waste Lands Board, by a majority of one.
