THE ENGLISH NEWS.

The Ministerial crisis, at home, has not come to much. It is little use indeed beating a Government upon some minor point, even though it should be made a cabinet question of, when that Government still retains the confidence of the public, and has a majority at its back on all questions of first rate importance. Mr. Disraeli's position, we conceive, will be rather worse than it was before, there are two objects which a politician who aspires to be a leader has to keep in view in moulding his public conduct; one of them is, of course, to place himself at the head of a Parliamentary majority; another, and not less important one, is to gain the confidence of other prominent politicians. A member may have what following he pleases an the House, yet if he is so distrusted by the other leading men of his party that _ they hesitate to work with or under him, his following will avail him little. That, apparently, is Mr. Disraeli's unfortunate position .at present. Lord Salisbury will, of course, have nothing to say to him, nor to any Ministry with which he is connected. Lord Derby, though he is ready enough at public dinners, and on such like occasions, to pay his tribute of admiration to the brilliant genius of the leader of his party, is hardly prepared to accept him as the head of an administration in which he will take office; and Lord Cairns and the Duke of Eichmond seem to share the mistrust.
