WASTE LANDS BOARD.
A meeting of the Board was held last week. There were present Messrs. Strode (in the Chair), Tolmie, Butterworth, and Clarke. Amongst other business—-of no general interest—a letter from Mr. James Cheeseman, chairman of the Blacks Progress Committee, was read. It objected to the high upset price put upon Ihe sections in the township of Ophir now gazetted for sale, and pointed oi.it that in 1871 the township was advertised for sale at the upset price of £o per section, and therefore it was requested that the Board should reconsider the rnattei*, and adhere to the price formerly advertised. A telegram from the Superintendent relative to the matter was also read. It was to the effect.that, after long discussion with the parties interested, he had recommended that the sale be proceeded with, but that the sections 1, 2, and 7, block I.; sections 3, and 7, block II.; and sections 3, 6, 7, and 8, block 111., should be reserved for mining purposes. The upset price, as fixed by the Warden, namely £l2 10s. per section, was affirmed, and the application of Mr. Cheeseman was, therefore (refused.
