O'Brien's Wildboy, aged, 7st 81b 1 Mr. Mosworthy's Malice, 5 yrs, 9st4lb ... 2 Mr. Hazlett's Atlas aged, Bst 81b ... 3 Mne started. Atlas was a hot favorite ; Wildboy got a good lead at the back of the course the second time round, and was never caught. Hack Eace of 20 sovs ; 1 mile . heats ; confined to horses being the bona fide property of the person entering same at least' one month prior to the 20th February, 1873, and residing within 20 miles of Lawrence. ISfo weight under lOst; entrance, 30s. . A present to Sultana. Pour started. Handicap Hurdle Race of 50 sovs; heats 5 over four flights of hurdles, 3ft 6in. high. Nomination, 1 guinea; acceptance, 2 guineas; distance, 1 mile and a distance. In the first heat Medora (lOst) and Tambourini (9st 121b) started. The latter baulked at the first hurdle, and drew out of the race. Medora walked on, but baulked at the second hurdle, throwing his rider, who remounted and walked round, coming in amid groans of indignation. It was a complete, bare-faced, and clumsily executed swindle. The weather was magnificent, and there were about twelve hundred persons on the ground. . j
SECOND DAT. Flying- Handicap of 40 sovs. Distance, 1 mile. Mr. Nosworthy's Hatred ... l Mr. Edgar's Empress (late Duchess) ... 2 Malice and Awatea were scratched. Three others started. Tuapeka Jockey Club Handicap of 100 sovs, with a sweepstake of 2 guineas added ; i the amount accruing from sweep to be given to the second horse. Distance, 2 miles. Mr. Nosworthy's Hatred, 5 yrs, 9at 51b ... 1 Mr. Paterson's Burgundy, aged, 9st 121b 2 Mr. Hazlett's Atlas, aged, Bst 101b ... 3 Tambourini and Misfortune also ran. In the straight Tambourini jostled Atlas out of the race. Eack Hurdle Eace, of 25 sovs.; distance, twice round the course ; over four flights of hurdles, 3ft. 6iu. high. Four started. Bojeshian won. Publican's Handicap, of 50 sovs.; distance, If miles. (The winner of the Lawrence Handicap, to carry 41b. penalty in this' race.) Mr. D. O'Brien's Wildboy, aged 1 Mr. Nosworthy's Malice, syears ... ... 2 Mr. Eraser's Medora, aged ... ... 3 Consolation Handicap, of 30 sovs • for all beaten horses ; distance, 1J miles. Won by Empress (late Duchess).
