Mr. Savile's Kaiser is first favouritefor the Derby of 1873." : The plant and interest of the famous. Green Harp Company has been sold by auction at the Thames for £2OO.

Numerous samples of alluvial gold from the Wakatipu, Manuherikia, Lawrence, and other districts have been forwarded, to the Vienna Exhibition. There are now five ex-Lord Chancellors, each in the receipt of £SOOO a year as. pension—Lord St. Leonards, Lord Chelmsford, LordWestbury, Lord Cairns, and-. Lord Hatherley. The 'Daily Times' says :—We understand that negotiations have for some time been in progress, and have at length been, brought to a successful termination, for the fusion into one concern of the two celebrated gold mining claims at the Shotover, near Queenstown, belonging to Mr. Thomas .Grace and party and Mr. Henry Eager and party respectively. ' Our readers will no doubt remember the case of Eager v. Grace, which excited so much attention and occupied so much of the time of our Law Courts last year, and in which* a claim, for very substantial damages was established in favour of Eager against Grace, for encroachment into his claim, and for the alleged abstraction of gold therefrom to a very large amount. The evidence produced to the, Court during; this trial abundantly proved the great richness of both claims, but it also very clearly proved the advantages which would result to the owners if the workings and operations thereon were united and permanently connected. This most desirable and sensible result has been secured by Messrs Gillies and Street, who have succeeded in reconciling opposite interests and in removing difficulties, and in inducing all the parties interested to throw their properties into a Limited Liability Company, and in accepting shares therein in payment thereof. The Company we are informed, is now being established, and the directorate selected. That ■ for Queenstown is composed of the Mayor and three excellent local men, and nearly one half of the valuable share capital has been reserved by them for allotment in the district. Dunedin will be represented at the Board by two additional- members. The shares reserved for Dunedin are limited in number, and are being rapidly applied for. Messrs Gillies and Street have furnished us with copies of several ex* cellent reports upon the properties, made by experienced mining engineers, and with official details extracted from the banker's books as to the past yield of their claims. These are certainly .to our mind conclusive as to the honafides and high character of the proposed scheme, to which we wish every success. There can be no doubt that, if successful, the present Company will be the forerunner of others, whose object will be the successful development of the vast riches abounding in the Colony, more especially in these ancient terrace beds, which only require capital and experience to be worked and worked successfully.
