MAEREWHENUA.

(From our own correspondent.) January 14th. At the Maerewhenua, last Friday, a severe hailstorm destroyed the gardens—completely stripping the' potato sliaws, and splitting open cabbages: Hailstones fell as heavy marbles. Great anxiety is manifested in reference to the objection raised by the millowners, fellmongers, and others, having works which use water from the Kakanui, against the granting of the additional water rights applied for by the Kakanui Company, and Cooper's party. : The objectors were represented by Mr. d ulius, ! a lawyer from Oamaru, who was accompanied j by Mr. Mowat (of Anderson and Mowat), and ; several others. i

arden's Cotjkt. (Before H. W. Robinson, Esq., "Warden).
