ATHENÆUM COMMITTEE MEETING.
A,.meeting of the Athenaeum Committee was held at the Union Church last Monday night. Present.: Messrs. T)e Lautour (chair),_ G-lcnn, Moore, sen., Moure, juu., Currie, sen., Carrie, jun., Maihew Cooper, W. J. Co .per, L >ry, Busch, Jackson. Tiie Chat'man explained that this was an adj-»urned meeting, the last meeting nit having come to a decision, as to the alterations necessary, to convert the Church building inro an Athenaeum. After considerable discussion Mr. W. J., Cooper, moved that tenders be called for the removal of the present building, and th;(t'a buittfthgbeadded Tift, by 2)ft. to) the front; 2ft. to be taken off the old building: thus dividing the whole into two compartments—lßft. by 20ft. and 28ft. by 18ft.: the Compartment 18ft. by 20ft. to be subdivided into two rooms, one Bft. by 18ft. the other 12ft. by 18ft; the smaller room to be for library, and the larger for Coumiittee-room : the front to be carried up uniform with the present building. Seconded by Mr. Lory. •.''<-. Mr. M athew Coopei, moved as amendment, " That, the building b© shifted back as far as prudent, and the lobby be taken oft the inside, and the reading desk platform removed: that a room Bft. wide by the breadth of the building, be partitioned otf' the inside for library purposes." This, ;he mover pointed out;. would give the Sunday School the same room as they now had : would prevent a rash expenditure of money, aud till the Committee th.ir footing would give a pie accommodation for their purpose, at the same time not impeding the use of the Kail for school or church purposes. The Chairman left the chair, to enable him to smconJ the motion, considering it to be very objectionable to have a big barrack and nothing to put in it. Mr. George took the chair.

Seconded by Mr. Moore. (Tho clause as to outside tenders was inserted, at the request, of the meeting). Mr. Busch's amendment was put and. lost, as also that of Mr. Mathew Cooper. Mr. W. J. Cooper's m >tiou was th&XL carried by a m«joriiy of three. Mr. BuscU, and Mr. VV. J. Cooper, were' then appointed, to call for tenders ou. plans and specifications, to be obtained from a competent party, and to call a meeting to consider tenders when obtained.
