LAYING THE FOUNDATIONS STONE OF THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
' On the afternoon of Wednesday t"h.3 11th inst., a very interesting ceremony was performed by the Masons of the Mount Ida Lodge. The Committee of the Presbyteriau-Church had requested the Lodge to lay the foundation stone of the first Presbyterian Church on j Mount Ida, now about to be erected Accordingly, at about 3 p.m. on the afternoon of Wednesday last, the brethren met in force, and marched in to the site of the new buildj ing with all the paraphernalia of their! (office. Mr: Bremner, on behalf of the Church Committee,- addressed the! Worshipful Master, after which the Masonic, Hynin vrafe sun?. Ji M'Cos h- iimit hj) .and the % present office bearers; The bottle being d uly seated,*: wa§ : then skilfully deposited, and this stone laid by the Worshipful Master .(Mr. Newman), who, after having the square and level adjusted, declared the stoue truly Jaid. He then addressed the minister and the congregation in feeling terms, pointing out how; much pleasure it gave to all, of whatever denomination, to assist Mr. Srnith and the Committee in their work that day, and also spoke of the very high esteem which was expressed by all for the rev. gentleman. Mr. Smith replied. On behalf of the congregration, he thanked the brethren for their kindness shown that day, and for himself personally be thanked them for their kind words, and good wishes, lie said his aim had always been to avoid anything that could savour the least of sectarianism, hi e would congratulate the congregation for their energy, which had built a manse suitable in every way, was creating a garden, and now had browned the whole by the inauguration of the building which was soon to be completed : it would be a fit place in whicn to worship the Great. In all this the committee, and through them the congregation, had proved, that " Where there is a will there is a way," —The Masonic anthem was well sung, and the assemblage, of aboufc 200, dispersed.
