At a sitting of the Mining Conference, Mr. Allan moved " that the new Bank shortly to bs established, should be supported by the miners, provided it gave a fair price for gold." He stated that the average price of gold in Australia was eighty-one shillings, and in some places eighty-three. In New Zealand all that could be got was seventy-five. The motion was withthe understanding that the ..Conference recommend the miners to support, any bank that may offer a fair price for gold. The Concert in aid of the school, came off on Monday last.
