INQUEST.
An inquest was held by the Coroner, 11. W. Kobinson, Ksq., on Monday, Dec." 2nd, at the lkllarat Hotel, on view" of tlie body of Thomas Turner, who died on Sunday last, at Amies' Hotel. William M*' \ ugh trie, John Stewart, and John M*l>onald, storekeeper, deposed, that they left Naseby in company with the deceased for a ride to ' Douglas' and Amies'; that they'dismounted at Douglas' where they had drinks. M'Aughtrie and deceased then rode on-to Amies, being overtaken by their companions. After remaining there some littlelime, M'Aughtrie prepared to mount his horse.. The deceased, having already mounted, sat. wifh his arms crossed on his horse's neck, talking to Mrs. Amies; who observed: him to slip off on to the ground after an effort to save himself by holding on to the mane. He got up of himself, and- walked to a ditch on the roadside, putting" his hand to his head, and told M'Donald he thought *' there was' something serious." trie and Stewart then .carried.him into the house, where, in abojit half" an hour, without again recovering /sensibility, he expired. , ~ ~ " A ■-■■■:. The evidence of Dr. Pick-showed that on Sunday night he was ..called to attend a man who was hurt at-Amies' Hotel; that on arrival he at J once pronounced the man to be dead. Neither on that occasion, nor on a subsequent occasion, afford-
ing time^oc,a^morje_cai^fuL..exaTnjnation, v . could lie detect any "external injury- suffi- : eient to : cause death, but, from the history of the case, arid after .hearing the evidence* before the jury, he w,js of opinion'that.the deceased died from,' rupture, oft* a .blood vessel, causing subsequent extravasation,! of blood, and, consequently, pressure upon., the brain. . This he. considered would be more probable on/* account of-the excited slate of deceased at,time of accident. The accidental evidence adduced-during.the hearing of the case, as to labored-breath-ing, the involunta>y flow of urine, and the sudden ace % ssion of come, confirmed him in this opinion. •* • '••"■ '■"' ' - - The returned a verdict of death from. accidental 'causes.
