The gold derived from the Inangahua reefs is worth £3 15s. an ounce, while that obtained at the Thames by the same processes is only valued at £2 15s. The Llanberris Company, at Ballarat, has lately crushed 3000 tons of quartz, averaging only 2dwts. 4f grs. per ton, and made a profit of £l5O. There is no credit in achieving splendid results from rich quartz,' but the example of what may be achieved with poor stone ought to'be quite as valuable to the Colony as a poetic deliverance teeming with splendid generalities, and vague anticipation*.
