The Auckland ' Evening Star' states that a private letter was received by a gentleman in A uckland stating that the Dominion of Canada has determined to send the Hon. S_ I. Tilley, Minister of Marine and Customs for the dominion, to New Zealand and Australia for the purpose of obtaining information and statistics respecting the trade and resources of the colonies, with a view to the establishment of a small route to Europe by way of British Columbia. He will be empowered to negotiate' with the respective Grovernments of the colonies for the proposed service, which will be run in connection with the Canard line of steamers from Halifax Nova Rcotia. The northern railway now being constructed through Canada will shorten the overland journey by, at least, two days, and there will be no delays caused through blockades.
