SCENE IN THE VICTORIAN PARLIAMENT.

Smith \va» constantly' interrupted by Mi* M'Lallan ' If he is u »t a, coward,' ejacu ate«l Mr Smith, * the hon. gentleman will allowjne to proceed , ' lie.is acoward, and a mean otie,' chimed in Mr Wilson, ' and 1 w ill }>rove it on the floor of the House.* Mr Wilson was evidently very'angry; but on beini; vailed to order, he at. once rose and expressed Ids regret at making the remark, and withdrew it. \ frer this had , been . done, - however, Mr M'Lellau said, across the table, * It's he who's the coward: he always was one. The Speaker was appeal* d to, but the only supposition is that he did not hoar the Minister, for he took no notice of the words, and the matter apparently dropped Bui itwas not so An agiiaiion among the attendants, Vae leaving of several prominent members in Haste, and a hurred visit of the -Sergeant-af-arms to the Speaker, told that mischief was afoot. Mr M'Lellan, it seems, wrote a note to Mr Wilson, in which We said, " You area coward." Mr -Wilson replied hv message that he would see Mr M'Lellan outside the and he went out immediatelv, followed bv Mr M'Lellan. In the l-.bby Mr M'Leilan, who was following his opponent, struck at him, though it is now denied that; the blow to dv effect. Mr Vale, who hail left the House, inteposed between the two. and Mr Macay and other irentlemeri coming up, prevented anv further demonstration. High words passed, but the friends of the two gentlemen induced them to return to their phuyf and after a time to exchange iriWual expressions of regret. For a time the diplomatic, business of peace-making kept half a dozen of the leading members busdf occupied."
