Mac, requiring recreation, Made himself a deputation ; Thinks he—l'm going-to start a shop, And whilst in Edin I dp stop I'll hit upon a plan that's new, ' His Honor I will interview. .-.-.-- My store's too high in Naseby town, Trade must be better lower down ; I'm at the wrong end, and I've found I should be on the cricket ground; -There : a : flourishing-trade I'cldo, - - And there I'll peg a site or_two. Mac, while.on his grand scheme intent, •- Met Kyehurn as along he went, And to him unfolds his plan— ... . " Come, mate, if be so bold you can, From Kyeburn though, you for Hogbiirh Can help to do a useful turn." Mac's mate is nothing loth to see— To view the Super, would honor be. Forth go this gallant, twain To His Honor, where, in melting strain, Mac says—" A deputation we— We two—your Honor now does see;. There's some ground, used by none save kids, % To be a treasure fairly bids ; I'll show, if you'll but list awhile, How your Honor can make a pile, If you for sale declare the ground Vincent will give a thousand pound." Here Mac his head nods, then he winks, Whilst the mild Super thus he,thinks : "This proposition made by these Will my empty Treasury please; And'if Naseby 'll pay the tin, Npught can I do but just cave in. Gentlemen, this I'll promise you : I'll tell the Warden what to doOn th' matter to report d'ye see — Then your request but leave to me." Mac, much elated; then withdrew ; "Naseby," thinks he, "I've flummoxed you." In truth, when he at length arriv'd 'Midst those for whom he thus had striv'd, He found himself in precious stew For what he was not asked to do. Stormy tongues and stamping feet For his great cheek he had to meet; All in arms, and great excitement, Penned a very strong indictment To show his Honor that luckless Mac Was nothing but a sorry quack; 'No.'kind of deputation he, Whom his Honor was a flat to see ! > X.Y.Z.
