THE NELSON RACES.
These races took place on Friday last. The weather was favourable and the attendance' large. The following are the results of the several events : Maiden Plate. —Awatea, 1; Squally, 2 ; Fides, 3; Nightingale, 4. Diomedia was a bad fifth. The race was a good one. Time, 2 mm. 25 sec. Turf Club Handicap.—Yatterina, 1 ; Peeress, 2'; Flying Jib, 3. A capital race took place between Yatterina and Peeress, the later being beaten by half a head only after a . splendid run all round. Tiiue 3 min. 33secs. steeplechase.—Eonald, 1 ; Syren, 2; Eclipse, 3,,; Sailor Boy nowhere. : A good "race. " Distance three miles. Ladies' Purse.—Sh-nder, 1 ; Black Eagle, 2;,. Mystery,£ ; Black Hawk nowhere. Slander won hands dowrij while Black Ragle was whipped hard. Time, 2 min. 30secs. ; distance, If mile. The second heat was also won by Slander.
