ST. BATHANS.

• The following applications were dealt with by Mr. Warden Kobiuson on the 26th inat.:— Agricultural lease, T. Mee.. Mining lease The application of Fur!on, Ewing and Turner, fct i lease of ten acres at Smoker's Flat, was further considered. The question was raised as", to the line of a tail race granted to J. and J.Hally, which would intersect the area applied for by purton and Co. Hally's party contended that they had a right to take their race through the western side of the area, while Purton and Co. alleged that the race* as granted would pass through their ground near its. extreme eastern boundary. The hearing of this objection occupied some hours, and the Warden determined to adjourn, the hearing until the next day, when he would visit the ground.—A number of applications were granted. At the Warden's Court, on the 27th, in the matter of the mining Tease application of Purton, Ewing, and Turner, adjourned from the previous day, the Warden visited the ground, and, after seeing what the parties had to bring under hs notice, concluded to reserve his decision until he should have communicated with Mr:..Warden,Carew respecting' the precise in--.tentfan'tff'.his grant of a tail race to HaMy and Co,:, the evidence having been very .conflicting.

'.. The Progress Committee have had several meetings during the present month. The re-pairs-of the.road : between and • the Four Mile are finished to the best advantage for the small sum allowed for that purpose. The. Committee have asked for a bi-weekly mail through our-representatives. As it would be a considerable boon to residents, here and in Welohman's, I trust it will be granted. ! The business people of this place are BpeaV : itig of CDntributing £5 to £lO eacn for 300 yards of water-pipes, for conveying a body ofi water into the "street, which might be used with advantage in case of fires breaking out. There is no decided plan of action settled upon regarding this most important matter as yet, but: those St. Bathanites • are reiriarkable for pushing through every matter they happen to take in hand, and if they really decide on taking the laying-on of the water in hand, you may soon hear of it becoming an accomplishedfact. • • -•■ : . .-•.." ■•;.•:.':

' The public meeting advertised to take;place here to-night, in connection with the Mount Ida District Hospital, is just oyer. Mr. Robinson, R.M., of Naseby, occupied, the .chair. The comparative convenience of the Naseby and Dunstan Hospitals was' discussed, and a resolution passed to the effect that :•'■ It is desirable for persona residing here to. transfer their'support to the Hospital at Naseby.'-' A local Committee was then elected, consisting of Messrs. Kenny, Pyle, Gilmore, Hanrahan, Smith, and Mulvey, with, palmer to = add two residents of WTelchman's and two of HiU'sCreek to their number. Mr. Ifobiuson gave a very lucid explanation of the progress of the building, and the support it was receiving from the people of Naseby and outlying places. A hearty vote .of thanks to x the Chairman brought the meeting to a close.

There is not the-slightest doubt but th«t the Mount Ida District Hospital will be well supported by the people of St. Bathans'to the best of their ability.—A.B.C. /
