ST. BATHANS.

ST. PATEICk's ' DAY FETE. The-17th happening to fall on Sunday this year, the celebration of the day so dear to Irishmen took place on the 18th! The picnic was a great success in point of numbers and regularity. The procession, headed-by. two handsome banners and a number of volunteer musicians, and followed by a long string of well-filled conveyances, and these again by quite a number of ladies and gentlemen on horseback, started from here about twelve o'clock and arrived on the picnic ground: about one o'clock. Por about five hours-afterwards the sight was a pleasing one — : grcups of happy-looking children, ladies, and gentlemen were seated on the grass in all directions, and seemed to be enjoying themselves well. The gentlemen comprising the Committee—Messrs. Webb, Pyle, M'Narnara, M'Caffry, Ciilmore,Hanrahan, Stewart, M'Gonnochie, Kenny, and Mulvey —were ably assisted by Messrs. Purton, Wilkes, and Brown; and, in fact, a host of volunteers, each and all of whom did their utmost to administer to the comfort of a) 1 the kind friends who came to

aid in celebrating St:-Patrick'.- Day. The Eev. Father lioyer v;.sited tile :for a few minili.es on his return from Isaseby,

and expresses,his surprise-at seeing.so many persons .asgfc.. m °led together, as also his satisfaction at tk arrangements made by the Committee in" eiu' ludin S aU intoxi ' eating drinks, while theyp*, ovidedinabuQ ' dance sober beverages''and \Fk °^ esome re " freshments: ■. it was a matter of U ie » ve& '~ est gratification to .the. Committed ' 6n " trusted with the management of the aSk ir to find themselves so well patronised; ridfc only by their friends residing in St. Bathans, Welchman's; and Hill's Creek, but also by those residing.in the more dr.taiit places of G-erman Hill, .Blacks, and Drybread. • To, wind up with the picnic, the procession returned here and drew up opposite the Montezuma Hotel a few minutes before seven o'clock. .

I)ancing~ commenced in the school-room at nine o'clock p.m., and continued till six o'clock next morning, and of the dance I can only repeat what everyone who witnessed it says—viz.; an out-and-out success, the only drawback being that the largo school-room was not large- enough to accommodate such a muster of friends. The ladies mustered well, and, matter of

course, were the prime element to make a success of the I say, with great sincerity, All honor to the ladies. Just before separating in the. morning three hearty cheers were given in honor of St. Patrick's day. Cheers were then given for the ladies, for, Mr. Cormack (who acted as M.C., assisted occasionally by Mr. O'Connor), and for the.music. Thave been requested by the' Committee to return special thanks in their name to Messrs. Brown, Pyle, Melvin and Watson for music; and to the following parties for a variety of kind assistance without which they could not have succeeded—, viz;,. Mrs.'and Mr, Prescott, Mrs. and Mr. Wheeler, Mrs, Hanrahan, Mr. M'Phail, Mr. Yorston, and several others—A.B.C.

P.S.—I should have mentioned that on the picnic ground, as also at the conclusion of the dance next morning, many hearty cheers were given for the ladies and gentlemen who came from the places already named "to help the St. Bathanites in * their celebration of St. Patrick's Day;
