Twelve hundred seamen took refuge on board seven vessels, which escaped. The ships were smashed up like chips. Mr. Martin Sholl reports that Tookey's shares have decliued from £42 to £27. Caledonian shares have advanced from £6O to £75, ex dividend. Thames Co.'s shares are at £l7, and improving. The market is dull, except for the above stocks. The Caledonian dividend was £5, the Thames Co.'s £1 10s., and the Tokatea Co.'s Bs.

The prospects at the Scandinavian Reef, Skippers, are excellent. In striking this reef, Messrs. Bullen Bros., the proprietors, have for sdven years persisted under, heavy discouragements, and during that time have expended over £ 15,000. The tunnel is 700 feet in length, some of it costing as much as £2 15s. a foot to drive. Their crushing machine is going night and day- but has not yet commenced to crush stone from the reef proper. Messrs. Bullen seem now in a fair way to reap the reward their enterprise so well merits. ■
