SERPENTINE.

(From our own correspondent.)) .* October 21, 1871.

The weather hero during the bjst week has been very cold, with constant showers of suow, sleet, and hail. 1 have to report the death of an old and much-reßpected miner named Peter Worth. The deceased was a hardworking man, of ho her. and steady habits, and was well known and universally respected not only in this place, but throughout the entire district of Mount Ida. Worth had been for some time past complaining, and at his own desire was sent down to Dunedin for medical advice, but survived only three days after his, arrival there. He leaves two brothers on the' Serpentine. V:

Considerable wonder is expressed among the mining population, here, at there having been no intimation of when we may expect a viait from Mr. Warden Ifobinaon. It is a long time since he waH here, and then winter ii now passed and there are many thingt which require his attention. Our population has been considerably augmented of late by new the whole of whom have already Bet in and are trying iheir luck.

The proßpecta of water supply- for the year appear to be very favorable. There have been several up here of late, in each case, bo far a* I have been able to ascertain, with ?ery satisfactory result*. Mining affairs in general are looking well, and I nave no doubt rhat the amount of gold produced between this time and Christmas will be something considerable.
