Police v. Kermode.—This was a complaint made under the Licensing Ordinance, charging the defendant with having abandoned his licensed house, the Ida Valley Hotel. There was no appearance of the defendant, and it having been proved that a summons bad been duV served upon him, and the house Wi cuestion had been closed for a considerable period, the license was declared to be void. No costs in the casej.

The business of the Court at this sitting consisted entirely of applications for grants under the Mining Kegulations. The following were made : —Michael Fahey, for a branch head race ; Caleb Dongee, for a residence area ; M Kechnie and party and Treyton Potter, for extended claims.

An application by William Thurlow and party, for a water race to divert four heads of water from the Dunstan Creek, commencing at the bunstan Creek about three-quarters of a mile below the public channel and to terminate at the Welsh man'B Gully, was opposed by Mr. Claus G-erkins, the manager of the channel, excepting that the grant, if made, should be subject to certain conditions which would protect the free working of the channel. The. Warden viewed the spot from which it was proposed to head the race, and decided to grant the application with the following endorsement on the license :.-— Granted subject to the con-
