HOSPITAL FOR MOUNT IDA.
A public meeting was held in the Oddfellows' Hall, Empire Hotel, on the evening of Friday, September 15, to receive report of Provisional Committee appointed at a public meeting held on the evening of the 11th August last, and to take such other steps as might be deemed necessary in furtherance of the" erection of an Hospital at Naseby. H. "W. Eobinson, Esq., occupied the chair. Me. Stratford addressed the meeting and made an elaborate statement of what had been done. He explained that his idea had been that the Government might reasonably have been expected to build an Hospital for ISTaseby. But it now appeared that the original proposition of Mr. Hertslet would have to be carried out. The Provisional Committee had now received a telegram from the Government, to the effect that the money would not be available before October, but that it would then be forthcoming. He paid a compliment to Mr. Hertsletl as the originator of the idea. He then! called on the Secretary to read the correspondence. Mr. "Wilson (Secretary) read—--Ist. Eichabds addressed the meeting, and asked for some explanation as to how the affairs of the .Relief Fund had been conducted. Mr. Indee said that hitherto the Belief Committee had received twothirds of their expenditure from the Government. He understood that grants-in-aid had been reduced to £1 for £l.
Me. Bust said the vote of the Council was for an Hospital, and not for the Eelief Committee.
