Drunk and' Incapable. William Moeller, charged' with this offence, was discharged with a caution. Child Desertion. —Frederick Kirg; was brought up by the police upon warrant charging him with having deserted his child, Wilhelmina King, in Dunediu, and leaving her without the _ means of support, contrary to the provisions of the Destitute Relief Ordinance.. The accused pleaded not guilty, and stated that he had made several applications for his child to be sent to him, and that the aunt, with whom she is at present staying, had refused to deliver her up. to Mr. Hawker, the» express carrier, whom he had instructed to, bring her to Naseby. He further stated that only on Saturday last he had again given Mr. Hawker full authority to bring her up upon his return, which was expected to be about Saturday next. Mr. George Collett* corroborated what the accused had stated, and said that he himself was willing to pay the passage money (£2) so soon as- the child arrived, and that arrangements- to that effect had been made with Mr. Hawker; The Magistrate said that- under the circumstances, he would remand tbe accused until Monday next,, in order that the result' of Hawker's application; for the child might be- known,, aaid accepted bail,, himself"and George Collett in the sum of £o. each, for his appearance on Mon- ' day next.
