It has not been without considerable ■ pain that I have felt ccihpelled to adopt : this.course as I do, in grateful remembrance the many acts of consideration and indulgence (with little, if any, unkindness or discourtesy) which I have at all times received at your hands during the period I have had the honor to conduct the Chronicle. Though discontinuing my connection with the paper, it is still my intention to remain among you—-at all events, for a season—and continue to carry on business as a Mining and General Agent; and I trust that ray old, as well as some new friends, will rally "round and support me in the not altogether hew.
