ST. PATRICK'S DAT AT THE SERPENTINE.

(To the Editor of the Moukt Ida Chronicle.)

Sib,— We of the Serpentine have had : 6ur holiday on St. Patrick's "Day like other folks., We had a grand programme from horse racing down to grinning through a collar, and-the sports went off very "well. There was 'one fault, however, to find in the arrangements. The committee, who are the leading men here, A. Murray/Esq, and Messrs. Eeidand C 6., were so very conservative: in their arrangements as to exclude all parties - excepting subscribers to the fund. After the" sports were over the Avinning competitors on going to 'enquire after their prizes, were tpld, "We can't give you the money till the subscriptions come in." [ Now,;don't you think Mr, Editor, it was a very mean affair, after getting their working bullocks to pull very hard to win the paltry few shillings to be competed for, for to go to the stores and shout on the strength of their winnings, and then to be told we have got no money for you. -I would propose, as only right, that, we should be paid bur entry money back again.—l am, &c, \ ; A Wi>tn~en t g Competitob. :; Serpentine Creek, :Mar. 23.
