MACRAES.—Mar. 11.
Resident Magisteates's Court. (Before H. W. Hobinson, Esq., R.M.) \ ; Lund and R. Clark, for being drunk and disorderly, were fined, the former in 20s. and the latter in 10s. Breach of Licensing Ordinance.— Police y. ."W. E. Grriffen.—lt was proved in this case that, the defendant, being an unlicensed person, had sold a bottle of gin in his store at Macraes Flat. Fined £3O, and costs Bs., and 10s. expenses of one witness. Tait v. Imerie.—Debt, £3 ss. The plaintiff in this case had been employed on wages at the works of the Duke of Edinburgh Co., of which the defendant is manager. The claim was for horse hire. It appeared that the plaintiff had a horse which the defendant had occasionally hired, but great part of the charge was made up by the ; plaintiff charging for horse hire on occasions when being sent to the post he chose to ride his own horse instead of walking. The Court gave a verdict for the reduced amount of £l7s. 6d., and allowed no costs, remarking that this was a most impudent, attempt at extortion. ' "Warden's Court. " (Before H. ~W. Robinson, Esq., Warden.) The following mining lease applications were heard, and there being no objection, the arden decided to grant a certificate in each instance:—W C. Imerie, for Excelsior Co.; same for Crown Co.; same for Persevance Co.; same for Moonlight Co.; and same for Macraes Co. + The mining lease applications of A. H. Burton (Caledonia Co.) and "W". C. Imerie (Victoria Co.) which had been set down for. hearing for this day were adjourned, in order , that the public notification required by the regulations might be gazetted.
