ALEXANDRA.—May 29.

(From a Correspondent.) Mining affairs are now in a more flourishing state. At Frenchman's Point they have again started to work, and the dredges have made a fair beginning for the winter. The Alabama bottomed last week, and found the !old ground which they worked so successfully last season. The Galatea has •taken up ground a,hove her, and to-day 1 hear has got a payable prospect. The new dredges (I think they are nameless yet, at least I have not yet heard them if they have any) will, no doubt, let us here from them shortly. In fact nothing but dredging is talked of hear now, and if things turn out, as foreshadowed by the prospects, I believe there will be some additions to their number soon, trying to redeem some oigthe money that was spent on this great- river during the first few years after the rush. There is a vast amount of wealth lying buried here, and it only wants energy, a little capital, and, as the digger would add, a ~ -c bit of luck," to gain the gold now lying in this great natural tailrace.

Sluicing is also going ahead briskly, the races being well supplied with water. The Manuherikia Sluicing Company are sinking a. pad-lock on the banks of the Manuherikia River, in the bend above Butler's Point. TheY-have-, struck very good wash, seemingly, bv the formation, an old beach "of the river ; but, 5 as they have not bottomed vet, I am unable to say much about it. The company have been working * with a small pump and wheel, and as they have now got their large new ones on

the ground lerpect to fee able 'to give you some good'- news shortly. They have got one head of water working on the bants of - the/ Molyneux, and are mating £iir steady wages.- ..
