Honor the with reference to the mail contract, and other matters connected with the town and District, returned from Dunedia on Wednesday evening last. Froaa them we learn that they had an audi! ence with his Honor on Monday morn-! ing, and that they had received an as-j surance from him that, if the proposed! service would be carried out for the sung of £lB5 (the amount of Messrs. Chaplia and Co.'s tender) or thereabouts, ha would at once recommend the require! alteration to the favorable consider* tion of the Postmaster-General, whfl he doubted not effect would be speediß given to the prayer of the memorial The subject of telegraph extension wasj his IHonor informed the deputation,, under the consideration of the Council, a notice of motion having been already placed upon the order paper by Mr., Mouat. With reference to the commonage question his Honor stated tag the whole subject would engage tm early attention of the Provincial Conn' cil. The question of water supply, for the use and safety of the town, bein| mooted, his Honor gave the depuration, reason to understand that thed Government would be prepared ti supplement, any sum raised for tLa purpose at the rate of £2 to £l.
