MANUHERIKIA V. MOUNT IDA. This match, between an eleven of the. District, selected by Mr. H. Glassford, and eleven of the Mount Ida Club, was played on the Naseby Recreation Ground yesterday, and terminated in favor of Mr. Glassford's eleven, with five wickets to spare. Mr. Glassford having won the toss sent to the wickets, to the bowling of Messrs. Handyside and Turnbull—Mr. Glassford himself keeping the wickets. These were speedily sed of for the small score of 42 —the bowling of Mr. Handyside being very good and effective; added to which fortune seemed to delareagainst the Mount Ida team, as several of the best of them came to an untimely end. Mr. Glassford's team next went to the wickets, to the howling of M'Nab and E. Carling, but succeeded in obtaining only the moderate score of 51 runs. The Mount Ida eleven, in their second innings made 46 runs, leaving it for Mr. Glassford's team to obtain 37 runs to tie, and 38 to win the match. Upon their return to the wickets the Manuherikia men succeeded in obtaining the requisite number of runs, and when game was called there were still five wickets to fall. The two elevens subsequently dined together at Mr. Horwell's Royal Hotel. The following are the scores:— MOUNT IDA ELEVEN.—1ST INNINGS E. one o'clock. Hermit and Merrythought were in splendid trim. Balmoral and Tommy looked rather weedy, but the latter, notwithstanding this disadvantage, managed to come in second. The District Handicap was well contested — Musician beating Golden Cloud by only half a length. The Matakanui stables were evidently in luck this time. Maiden Plate of 50 sovs. One mile and a half.
