Miss Avis Barnett is spending her annual holiday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Barnett, of Atveime Road, Foxton. Ja-c-lk Bhortt is spending a holiday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. Jay, of Foxton Beach, and late of Shannon, has been admitted to the Palmerston North Hospital to undergo an operation on his leg. Roach, of the local slalf of the Blank of New Zealand, has been successful in passing the following subjects, in the law and banking examinations held in No\ember last: Economic Geography and Commercial and Banking Law 11. Air. Roach has now passed in seven subjects for his banking diploma. On Christmas Day Mr. and Airs. S. Read, of Foxton, will celebrate the 54 th anniversary of their wedding. The couple were married in the 'Wesleyan Church, Wellington, by the late Rev. Alex. Reid. Of a. family of nine children, seven are still alive, together with a largo number of grandchildren. The death occurred on Sunday morning of a very old identity and a highly respected citizen of Palmerston North in the person of Air. Frederick Oakley. Born in AYalsnee, England, on May (i, 1840, he came to New Zealand when 10 years of age with his parents in the Indian Queen, a sailing vessel of tin* Blackball Line, landing in Wellington. He was apprenticed to the late Air. Lodkie, Wellington, in the building trade for 7 years and then went to Foxton and with the late Mr. .T. E. Perrin, built Hie first post office in Foxton. He is survived by his widow four daughters and four sons, the daughters being Sisters Catherine and -Hyacinth, of the Dominican Convent (Dunedin), Airs. A. 11. Gascoyne (Cambridge), ..Miss Mabel Oakley (Palmerston North), R. S. and F. C. Oakley (Wellington), and J. F. Oakley (Afarton) are sons.
