MOUTOA DRAINAGE BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Moiltoa (Drainage Boai’d was held in the Board’s office on Thursday evening presided over by Mr. JChrvstail (chairman). Also present were Messrs W. S r . Carter I (Palmerston North), W. E. Barber, ] D. Pure'ell, B. G. Gower and the secretary (Mr. G. V. Eraser). FOREMAN’S REPORT. The foreman (Mr. T. A. Robinson) reported as follows: — During the month the cleaning \voiik in connection with the upper section of Langley’s North drain 1 was completed for a distance of 15 chains, it being found necessary to 1 blast several stumps which were causing a blockage. Owing to a complaint reeleived from Mr. Barber that Leens drain was not releasing the water from his property the trimming of nine chains of I Langleys outlet drain was not proceeded with but work commenced in j Kara Kara drain about 12 chains front' Leens drain, the water being of a suitable depth to allow work 1 to be carried out. As a result 32 chains were covered taking the work up to Leens drain. A request was also received for attention to P the top section of Dr. Walls’ drain owing to the fact that the last rain Hooded the flat behind Marotiri. When inspected the drain was ; found to be full of water grass and ■ two days were spent cleaning 20 chains which lowered the water by one foot and safeguarded the property from further flooding. The total distance of drains cleaned during the month was 77 chains. Five more large willows had to be removed from Leens drain so the P remainder of the trees likely to cause trouble were cut back. Leens j drain is heavily coated with water grass and blocked with silt which has come from where deepening operations were carried out six months ago. Altogether the present year has been a bad one for drains as they all show an abnormal growth of weed. During the very high tides and gales at the end of November the big double ! doors at the Main Drain floodgates became badly silted up and pre- 1 vented from opening more than three feet. Big pieces of timber : also bumped out nearly all the stays of the smaller doors. The report was 'adopted and it was decided to try a weed killer on ; the banks of the drains. TREASURER’S REPORT. The treasurer reported as follows : The bank balances to date are: Bank of N.Z. at credit, £474 13/10; Post Office Savings Bank at credit, £94 7/4. 'The balances of the main ledger accounts are as follows: — General A/e. credit, £338 3/6; Interest A/c. credit, £136 10/4; Worker’s dwelling Loan A/e. credit, £94 7/4. The treasurer reported that since last meeting a further sum of £333 18/7 had been collected on account of current rates, leaving a balance •of i£7G 1/- still to be collected. Ten per cent, had now been added to lias amount and the accounts for the individual amounts concerned, had been placed in the hands 'of the Hoard’s solicitors. Accounts amounting to £52 11/7 were passed for payment. POSSIBLE REDUCTION IN RATES.
