FOXTON FIRE BOARD

QUARTERLY AFEETING. The quarterly meeting of the Foxton Fire Board was held in the secretary’s office last evening, presided over by Mr. A. 11. Gierke, of Wellington (chairman). Also present were Messrs M. E. Porreau, .J. K. Hornblow. An apology for absence was received from Mr. C. -J. Grav (Wellington). THE .SUP ERINT El\ DENT’S REPORT. The superintendent (Mr. H. Reid) reported ns follows on the brigade’s operations during the past quarter:— “Fires: —During the quarter there have been two calls to outbreaks of lire both of which have been quickly dealt with by the brigade. On Monday, 13th October, at 10.15 p.m. a. call was received in connection with the kitchenette outbreak in Alain (Street. A good pressure of water enabled this to lie confined to the kitchenette rear kitchen although some damage was occasioned to the front portion by water and smoke. On Monday, 17th November at 1.1.15 a.m. a call was received in regard to Mrs. Parkes’ residence in Thymic St. The fire which was in the hall was quickly suppressed. In connection with the above fires Mrs. Parkes and Art*. Murray have expressed 1 licit* thanks to the Brigade in a practical way and have forwarded donations to the social fund. “Practices: —During the quarter lo practices have been held. “Equipment:—All in good order. Hose mending* outfit to hand. “Inspection:—On Tuesday, .December 2nd, Inspector Hugo carried out an inspection of the brigade when there was an attendance of 15 men and .1 messenger, 1 man being on leave and out. of town. At the conclusion of the inspection Inspector Hugo addressed the brigade complimenting it on its appearance- and efficiency in its work. At his request the siren was sounded when he expressed entire satisfaction with its operation. “(Gleaning* Arrangements:— The new cleaning arrangements are wo liking quite satisfactorily. “Social Room: —The brigadesmen have carried out the re-lining of the social room and the same Ims added considerably to the neat and tidy appearance of the room. The brigade is bearing half the cost; i.f the material for this work, and trust that at some future date the Board will see its way to refund this money. “Seasonal Greetings:—l am instructed by the officers and men to convey their hearty seasonal greetings to the members and secretary of the Board and to thank (lie Board for its kindly consideration and assistance during the past and current years.” The chairman referred to the wry satisfactory manner in which (lie brigade had dealt with the three fires during the quarter. Mr. Hornblow said the saves made during the period was evidence of the efficiency of the men and the splendid water pressure at I lie disposal of the brigade. The operation of the brigade in the borough gave residents a feeling of security at nights, whereas in the past whenever the five bell sounded it was with feelings of anxiety that they turned out to the outbreak. The chairman said the electric alarm also greatly assisted the brigade. The members reciprocated the good wishes extended and the report was adopted. INSPECTOR HUGO’S REPORT. ilnspectoir Hugo reported on an inspection of the brigade as follows: — “An inspection of the Foxton Brigade and its equipment was made on the 2nd (nstarit. when, at the inspection muster, the Superintendent, Deputy, thirteen firemen and one messenger were in attendance. The required inspection drills were earned out in a smart and etffijcient manner and the station and equipment were found in good order and all equipment is adequate to requirements for the time being.” The report wa-s adopted. Accounts amounting to £lO4 13/- were passed for payment.

At the conclusion of the meeting the Board members met the brigade at the station where a pleasant social time was spent.
