Mrs. E. A. Mason accompanied by her sister, Miss B. Robinson, is spending a holiday in 'Christchurch. The friends of Mr. A. Wishart, of Panic Street, will regret to learn that his condition is at present serious. The friends -of Miss Duncan, of Lady’s Mile, will regret to learn I lull she is at present confined to bed with a serious indisposition. Captain Neary, of the local Salva I ion Army Corp, is a I present spending a. holiday in Christchurch. ■
The first white child born in lOiielmiiga, Mrs. Isabella- Hutchison, died at her residence, Nor.man’s Hill, Onehumra, on Erilay. Site was born in 1.844, when Oneliunga. was a wilderness of tangled lerii, manuka scrub and raupo swamp, with a few Maori kumara. plantations in the clearings. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eorbes, opened the lirsl hotel at llie Ma.ii.ukau cii Hie beach at the fool of Nor.man's Hill.
At yesterday's meeting of the Wanganui Education Board, Dr. Elizabeth 'Gunn was presented by Board ‘ members with a handsome bouquet of roses and gqbd wishes extended foil* her trip abroad. Eulogistic references were made to |)r. Gunn’s work. Dr. Gunn, in f h;inikhi£>‘ Mu% -board lor its bonit net, said she intended to visit (Switzerland, Vienna and other places where underfed children are treated by sunlight and other methods, and hoped that her observations would be of assistance to the board when she returned.
