One oS** these, which had been in’the Otaki Borough, was struck by -a car in the region of a knot. / Mr. Morse mentioned signs of - decay apparent on poles at Otaki Beach; but the Engineer stated that if was only the sap-wood that was affected, the inside being quite solid. i The Engineer’s report was ado]A» ted. GROWTH OP ELECTBICITY M ’ HOiiOWHEINbJA. The connected electrical load of the Horowhenua Power Board to November,l2th, 1930, as shown in the analysis presented by the Engineer (Mir. J. A. Smith) was as under:- —
*ilepa'esentiiig 559 sheds. ■UOMiPAJAIIS OJST WITH LAST YJSAR. The "following' schedule shows lhe numbers of connections in the various classes for the eight months to .November 12th, 1930, iiiid for the corresponding period of last year:—
The chairman (Mr. G. A. Monk) and the Board generally expressed satisiaclion with the growth of the business. , , .Mr. Retherick remarked on the ■ steady increase of. milking motors, and pointed out that in every monthly report there was evidence of the expansion of this medium tor the use of electric power. The chairman said that the fact was largely due to the land subdivisions that had 'been in progress. Mr. Vincent noticed a greater rise in the aggregate connections than in the total of kilowatts, and lie asked if on this account the load wig; more profitable than in 14)2}).--- U
The engineer replied that the load was better spread this year and was thus better from the Hour's --point of view.
The chairman said there was another side of. the position. The capital expenditure had been very much- heavier this year than last yearly probably it was not more profitable. Still, tfie position was pery gratifying. .APPLICATION'S AND JbNSTALLATIONS. In his (monthly report the Engineer gave tfie following particuhi rs as to applications*, installa, lions ami extensions:— u Twenty-eight, applications have been received from new consumers and 21) applications for extensions to existing installations, comprising eight ranges, ten waterheaters, eleven milking and separator motors, five pumping and two industrial motors. Forty-six ■ new consumers and 20 extensions have been connected, including seven'ranges, '2(l water-heaters, 32 milking and separator motors and seven industrial motors, making a total' increase -of 123.097 k.w.. .
,i > The ze h airman said that, although the dairying season was well under way, applications for current were still coming in very ■well, as shown by the returns in respect of motors and waterheaters. Moreover, a considerable number-of new installations had been made during the past month.
