Tlie charge for a three-minute •wireless telephone conversation between New Zealand and Australia has ibeen fixed at £3, according to a statement made recently by the secretary of the Post and Telegraph .Department, Mr. G. McNamara. Experiments in the direction of perfecting the system are still proceeding, and as soon as these,, are complete the service will lie established. Mir. A. E. iWilliams, of New Plymouth, has recently had returned to him a sovereign ease (containing two sovereigns and a half sovereign) which he lost seven and ■ a-half years ago on a property then occupied by him. The present owner of the property was grubbing gorse when lie found the articles which had, of course, long since been regarded as irretrievably lost. Every student sitting for the university examinations at present being held receives either a codeword or a number to mark upon his paper. Those wlio apportion the code-words, which seem to be chosen at raudom from a dictionary, sometimes achieve effects of grim humour. Not long ago, says the Christchurch Press, one honours student received rather a shock when he found that he had been allotted the all-ominous word “Pail;” another was heartened by finding that his was “Achieve,” hut what omen could that student infer who found, as one did, that his fate depended on the word j “Ketchup?,” ,
