TWO MINUTES’ SILENCE
ON ARMISTICE DAY. The arrangements for the solemn observation of two minutes’ silence on Armistice Day (Tuesday, 31 tli November) will lie the same us those of last year. His Excellency the GovernorGeueral lias received the following cablegram from the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs: — “His Majesty has approved of arrangements for the observance in this country of Armistice Day, 11th November, on the same lines as in previous years namely: (1) Short service will be held at the Cenotaph on the lines adopted in previous years, including hymn “O God Our Help in Ages Past;” (2) two minutes’ silence will be observed at 11 a.m. Local authorities in this country will be asked to arrange for suspension of all vehicular traffic for two minutes from 11 a.m., but rail and water transport will not be suspended.” All heads of Government Departments are being asked to arrange for two minutes’ silence and similar observance of the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice, will be made generally at the same hour. As it is considered that Armistice Day is too solemn an occasion on which to tfiy bags, it has been decided to lialf-mast flags, it has been decided to half-mast flags on all Government buildings throughout New Zealand during the two minutes at 11 o’clock when silence is to be observed throughout the Empire.
