(To the Editor.)
•Sir, —As a ratepayer for many years in Fox ton, and 1 believe I pay more rates than the majority of those who signed the petition presented to the recent Council meeting, 1 would like to congratulate the Borough Councillors upon their backbone in refusing to be scared into changing their opinions re installing “talkies.” in my opinion the talkies will pull up the failing revenue at tile Town Hall Sind attract numbers of people who now go elsewhere for this class of entertainment, and incidentally spend money that would lie better circulated locally. 1 notice quite a ntimber of names on the petition who, i believe, have rarely, if ever, patronised the pictures. 1 suppose i liese people would like to go hack lo kerosene lamps and candles, and stumble along dark streets at night, 'keep (filth in their back yards to breed and carry germs on to their food, on* cart water in summer time for household use, nr see fires destroy valuable property as happened years ago. We can't expect all these utilities and conveniences without paying for them. If we didn't have all these things, Foxton would be a very bad back number. 1 am, etc., RATEPAYER.
