THE ECLIPSE OF THE SUN
The partial eclipse of the sun was plainly observable in Poston yesterday. The morning commenced very rough with a steady downpour early hut the sky cleared shortly after 8 o’clock and enabled local residents to obtain an excellent view of the phenomenon. The first contact was noticed at 8.33 a.m. and followed until the greatest phase at 9.31 a.m. and bv 10.33 the sun was clear again. At the maximum slightly less than half of the sun’s diameter was obscured by the moon. The path of totality commenced near the equator, north of New Guinea, and proceeded in a southeasterly direction, crossing the island of Niuafou (between Fiji and Pamoa) and ended on the southern extremity of South America.
