FOXTON TENNIS CLUB.

OFFICIAL OPENING-

Despite the unfavourable weather conditions, there, was a good attendance of members present at the official opening of the Foxton Tennis (Club’s courts yesterday afternoon.

The President (Mr L. C. Bryant) in welcoming the visitors, said he was especially pleased to see members from the -sister clubs, Levin and Shannon, and also those from Palmerston North. He regretted the inclement weather, but under the circumstances he thought they were very foirtiumte in being able to open at all. The courts were not quite as good as lie had hoped, but was sure they would improve as the season progressed. He then ’called upon the Mayor (Mr Perreaii) to ipeak and officially open the courts.

The Mayor congratulated the members on the work they had put in in getting the courts in such good order. He was pleased to see such a good attendance, which augured well for the success of the Club during the coming season. He wished the Club a very successful season, and then called on Mrs Brant to play the first ball, after which lie declared the courts open fin’ play. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the ladies of the committee, and an enjoyable time was spent.
