LICENSED VICTAULLERS’ CUP.
FOXTON DEFEAT SHANNON.
The last game of the season to be played in Shannon took place on the Domain on Saturday when the Shannon juniors again met Foxton’s juniors in the knock-out competition for the Licensed Victuallers’ ICbp, tiie previous match between these two teams having been a draw. On the first occasion the teams met, a good game resulted, but Saturday’s game was very disappointing, both team's giving a poor display of Rugby. In. the first spell, playing with the -wind, Eoxton had the home team on the defensive most of the time. Several times they looked like scoring, but at. the critical moment lliev incurred penalties and were only able to score one try. From near the half-way line, limit ley, .semiring the ball, sent a long pass to Croon, who outpacing the opposition went, over, X. Huff converting. On changing over after half time Shannon with the wind in their favour had numerous opportunities of putting up a score, with the large number of free kicks that, came their way, but lacking a good goal kicker, some easy chances were missed, M. dude', with his one attempt being the only kicker to register a try. The Foxton backs were not as nippy as usual, making little use of 1 lie ball when it came their way. In this respect the Shannon hacks were the superior, but the tackling by Foxton prevented them getting fa i'. The forwards on both sides worked hard, Sira nnon getting most of the ball from the scrums.- At the call of time the score stood: Foxton 5, Shannon 3. ' The winners will now play oil with Wanderers in the final. Mr. P. MieLeavey controlled the game.
