THE NEW! MEMBERS. The pew member for Waipawa, Mr. A. .E. .Tull, has been promin'ent in local politics' in Hawke’s Bay for many years, and for a long period has held the chairmanship of the Napier Harbour Hoard. For 20 years he was a, member of the Waipawa County (Council, a local body, from which he retired a few years ago. Mr. Jull is a newcomer to the political field, and contested the Waipawa seat against the late Sir George Hunter on several occasions. He is chairman of- the Counties’ Association, a. member of the Highways Board, and a past president of the Power Boards’ Association. Though Mr. Jull has been in the Dominion for 52 years, lie is a Canadian, having arrived in Hawke’s Bay at the age of 13.
Mr. Taite Te Tomo is a farmer by occupation, and has a thorough grasp of political questions as they affect the native population. For many years he has lbeen a suppoi’7 ter of the Reform Party, and for close on two decades acted as organiser for the late Sir Maui Pomare, whom he now succeeds in Parliament as representative of the Western Maori. His candidature at the by-election was endorsed by the Maori “King” of the Waikato, Mr. Te Rata Mahuta, and in his election addresses Mr. Te Tomo made it clear that it would be his
aim to bring to finality the vari- ■ ous matters left unfinished hy the . late Sir ~ Maui Pomare. Mr Te Tomo hails from Halcombe.
STATE OF PARITIES. As a, result of yesterday’s elections the United Party has a strength of 27 members. Reform is the strongest partv in the House with 28 members, and no party has an absolute majority.
