FOXTON DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL.

COMMITTEE MEETING. The monthly meeting of the local District High -School committee was held last night, presided over by Mr. J.-K. Hornblow (chairman). There were also p'resent Messrs R. Rangiheuea, I. W. Mudford, G. F. Smith, R. Mayor, John Ross, 10. M. Hewe.tt, and the headmaster (Mr. F. A. Mason). An apology for absence was received from Mi*. Per ream

Correspondence was received from the Education Board, intimating that a grant of £l2 10/- had been made to the committee from a departmental allowance to the Board to be distributed among schools where extraordinary expense was incurred. —Received. Messrs John Ross and Mayer reported re obtaining prices for concreting a (sft. strip at the western portion of the school to protect that portion from the wind which c-aused dangerous holes.

The headmaster said the architect had inspected the spot and had suggested that the width of the proposed work he increased to 12 ft.

It was pointed out that the proposed basketball area would obviate the necessity for increasing the width of the concrete and it was decided to invite tenders for the work as originally proposed. The headmaster reported that the Levin iChoral Society had kindly offered to donate half the proceeds, of the opera “Maritana” to the school funds, which offer bad been accepted with thanks. It was decided to expend the money and subsidy on ground improvements and if possible to give employment to local unemployed in that connection.

Accounts amounting to £l6 11/vvere passed for payment.

The headmaster submitted a report and recommendations for the improvement of the school environment. After a. brief discussion it was decided to hold the report over for further discussion.

Messrs John Ross and R. Mayer were appointed visitors for the month.
