FOXTON-PALMERSTON NORTH RAILWAY.
TO CONTINUE AS AT PRESENT.
A considerable portion of the Railway Commission's report presented to Parliament is devoted to a review of branch lines throughout the country, and its conclusions are for the most part unfavourable. The commission considers that representative organisations in various centres 'and districts will take steps to ensure a greater use of Government railways with resultant benefit to (he department.
The IConimissioner’s comments in respect to the Foxton branch is as follows:
In view of the comparatively small loss oil working the commission recommends that the line continue to be operated as at
present. . The expenditure is £14,800 and revenue £12,000, the loss on working being £2BOO, including interest. £-500.
