MANAWATU-OROUA RIVER BOARD.
The classification schedule* and plan in connection with the Mana-watu-Oroua River Boards modified .scheme of Hood control was submitted to a meeting of the Board held on Saturday. Mr \Y. S. Carter presided, and there were also present Messrs H. J. T. Hume, C. Spoil’s, R. Harrison, \V. Barber, B. G. Gower and F C. Hay (engineer). Wjith the submission of the classification list for rating purposes the arrangements for proceeding- with the scheme for which the Government has made available £IOO,OOO is now virtually complete. The Board’s engineer submitted tin? classification schedule and plan and recommended ratios as follows: —Class A, 23; Class B, 18; Class €, 14; Class D, 10; Class E, 8; Class F, f>; Class G, 4. The rates per acre on. that basis as finally classified were: Class A, 10s Id; Class B, 7s lid; Class C, 6s 2d; Class D, 4s sd; Class K, 3s Gd; Class E, 2s 7d; 'Class G, Is 9d.
The Board adopted the report and signified its approval of the ratios proposed. The classification will come up for adoption at a later meeting after mature consideration.
It .was suggested that at tlu* inception of the scheme the Board might, have to strike a maintenance rate, in order to prevent diminution of loan moneys available for the main scheme. The Board resolved to raise a special loan of £2,663 13s 4d to carry out work on Coley's bend, the security to he 3{d per acre on all rateable land classed A in the No. 3 separate ‘area (Malkerua sub-division of the ManawatuOroua River area).
