INTEREST IN PALMERSTON NORTH.

Palmerston North may be the lirs! city to introduce gliding into I lie Dominion. A small hand of cul linsinsts has been active at this cenlrc, and a public meeting to consider forming a club in called for Monday evening. Various matters were discussed cl a preliminary meeting, when it was suggested the proposed club should const met a practice glider. This, it was considered, would sliiiinlatc interest in the sport until flic arrival of a glider from abroad. A suitable machine, it was staled, could he -purchased in America for £SO, while they were bciiig marketed ip Germany for as low as £2O. The chief advantage of gliding over avialion, its cheapness, is not -being lost sight of, and the subscription to the contemplated club will lie as low as possible, so that i .cople • of moderate means will be able to participate in a. sport which is 'keenly rivalling aviation in popularity in Europe and A meriea.
