THE SPRING SHOW.
A MOST SUCCESSFUL EXHIBITION. ENTRIES DOUBLE THOSE LAST YEAR, The Spring show of the Foxton Horticultural Society was held in the Town Hall yesterday. The blooms were particularly good and the entries a record for spring
shows. The exhibition was opened s by the Mayor ('Mr. M. E. .Perreau) who said that it was very' gratifying to (find the entries this year almost double what they were at the last spring show. They totalled 450 as against 255 last year and reptiesented exhibitors from all parts of the district including Rongotea and (Men Oroua and as far south as the Hutt. The exhibition showed that the Society was well supported and he congratulated the president, committee and secretary on the success which had attended their efforts. He .. noticed the on Hies in the the vegetable section were not large but it. was hardly the season of the year to. expect, a good exhibit in this connection. However, he expressed the hope that the local unemployment would carry out a little gardening which besides being of benefit to themselves, would assist the next. show. The attendance at both afternoon and evening sessions was good and showed an increase on last year’s show: A sweets stall, was ■this year (by Mi’s, and Miss Patchett, which did good business. Mir. F. Caple enlivened proceedings during the afternoon ’ with pianoforte numbers which were much, appreciated. v The baby show created a good deal of interest and the judges experienced some difficulty in. selecting the prize winners. > In the evening a child rents elocutionary competition was organised and proved an interesting diversion.
