Wellington, Sept. 5. The Minister of Agriculture, Hon. A. J. Murdoch, lias been asked bv Air. \Y. 11. Field whether the scientists of New Zealand who have for years past been investigating the disease known as '•yellow leaf” in the native lla.x plant have yet discovered the cause, origin or nature of this disease or a remedy for it and if they have made such a discovery, whether the Agricultural Department will furnish Hax-grow-ers with full information on the subject so as to induce them to conserve their Ilax.

The disease, says Mr. Field, is much mare serious and persistent than in former years. Many growers un the Manawatu line are rooting; out their ilax and using the land for farming and gardening purposes.
