iMOREASE IN BANK CHARGES. NEW PLYMOUTH PROTEST. New Plymouth, Sept. 4. A protest at the decision of the Associated Panics to double the charges for keeping accounts, was made by the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce to-night. A remit is to he sent to the Associated Chamber of Commerce Conference suggesting that in view of the special advantages enjoyed by New Zealand banks the additional impost was not warranted. A voice: 1 suppose we could not insert “virtual monopoly” instead of “special advantages'?” It was suggested the banks would lose many accounts, which would go to the Post Office arid savings banks. One member said that- in America banks looked for accounts, and even issued free cheque books.
