'TOW'fN v. OpiI'N'TRY MATCH. Although at one stage it led by 12 points the Town lifteten eventually won its mat eh against the Country side at Athletic Park on Saturday (by only two points, the final score being 23 —21. in the first spell the Town side had easily the better of the game, and should have scored more points than it did. The Town forwards secured much more of the ball, with tin; result that the backs had far more opportunities than did the Country rearguard, though at times the handling was very ragged. ■When lhe teams changed over at half-time, however, the Country forwards did much heller, and the game was at times exciting. To its 'opponents’ six points the Country team put on sixteen, and toward the end it seemed very likely that it would snatch a. last-minute win. On the day’s play, however, lhe Town players deserved their victory, for they played the more consistent football throughout.
A Blenheim man is chuckling over the rather neat revenge which he ha a secured at the expense of a petrol thief. Recently he lost a ease of motor spirit from his garage, and decided to set a trap. Accordingly he tilled up two tins with water, placed them in a- ease, and awaited events. They have been duly stolen, and he is now interested in any motorist who appears to be working overtime on the starting handle.
