ATr. and Airs. Harold Osborne, who are holidaying in -the North, are at present spending a few days in Auckland.

A soldier in the Xew Zealand forces at the age of .18, Edward Charles Meredith, died on Sunday in Xew Plymouth at the age of 84. It was the murder of his father and brother by the .Maoris on July 14, 18(14, near Drury, which began the Amikato war.
The death occurred in Wellington yesterday of Air. John Prouse, a notable figure in the music circles of Xew Zealand at the agio, of 7f». He was a distinguished baritone -inger and had toured with famous artists, including Kubelik, ALelba, Hackhaus, and Dolores, llis greatest aohiqvmcnis were in oratorio and he had sung in the Albert- and Queen's hall. He was born at Wainuiomata, where his father settled in 1841 and was a successful business mail in the timber trade. lie leaves a widow, three sons and two daughters.
